What are Chakras?
While most of us can only see our physical body, our body also has an energetic system. This idea is new to Westerners, but Oriental medicine has known this for thousands of years and mapped out meridians (energetic pathways) which "connect the dots" to our acupuncture points.
The word chakra is the Indian Sanskrit word for "spinning wheels".
These chakras are our energy stations. They are powerful magnetic and electrical fields and each chakra is in constant motion resonating to different vibrations of color. Our bodies have seven major power centers and 122 minor ones.
The 7 major chakras start at the base of the spine to the top of our head. The state of each chakra reflects the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health of that area.
All chakras influence our glands, organs, muscles, ligaments, veins and all other systems within its energy field. Each chakra also regulates distinct aspects of our personality and mood and this is where our memory is energetically coded. Every experience we've ever had in our life gets filtered through these chakras and is recorded into our cells.

The first chakra is our relationship to the material world and our family, and is the foundation of our mental and emotional health.

Areas affected: chronic lower back pain, legs, bones, feet, rectal and immune system disorders, addictions, sciatica, varicose veins.
Issues: fears of abandonment, no connection established with primary caregivers
Strengths: acceptance of life on earth, survival, power to achieve goals, grounding, material security, stability, trust, courage
Affirmation: I am stable, secure and safe, I am rooted in life and myself, I trust completely

2nd Chakra - Sacral - Orange

The second chakra is the relationship to others and ourselves, and is the center of personal power, creativity, sexuality, and finances.
Musical note: D
Areas affected: reproductive organs, kidneys, bladder, large intestines, pelvis, appendix, and hip area, arthritis, sciatica, pelvic/low back pain, sexual potency, prostate or ovarian/uterine problems, fibroids, severity during menopause.
Issues: fear of being controlled or losing control, financial losses, blame, guilt, money, sex, power.
Strengths: sexuality, emotions, desires, sensuality, enthusiasm, relationships, openness to others, personal creativity, ethics, ability to take risks, decision-making ability
Affirmation: I open myself to others naturally, my creative/sexual energy has the power to create and transform, and I feel my creativity streaming through my body, mind and soul.

3rd Chakra - Solar Plexus - Yellow

The third chakra continues in the development of self-esteem and personality and helps us to create and maintain strong personal boundaries.
Musical note: E
Areas affected: pancreas, liver, digestive system, stomach, spleen, gall bladder, arthritis, urinary problems, colon/intestinal problems, eating disorders, indigestion, diabetes, ulcers.
Issues: fear, intimidation, lack of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-respect, overly sensitive to criticism, fear of rejection and looking foolish, preoccupation with physical appearance.
Strengths: personal power, social identity, authority, health control, will, peace, radiance, joy, inner harmony, vitality, strength, action, self esteem, self respect, courage, trust.
Affirmation: I accept myself completely, my personal power is growing stronger every day.

4th Chakra - Heart - Green

This chakra allows us to learn and experience love, compassion and forgiveness.

Areas affected: heart and circulatory system, lungs, arms and hands, diaphragm, upper back, rib cage, skin, lungs, allergies, heart problems, asthma, lung cancer, bronchial problems, pneumonia, shoulder pain, breast cancer.
Issues: jealousy, anger, resentment, hatred, bitterness, unresolved grief, unable to forgive, self-centeredness, loneliness and betrayal.
Strengths: unconditional love, forgiveness, healing of others and ourselves compassion, understanding, transformation, selflessness and hope.
Affirmation: I am an open channel for Divine Love, I share my heart openly with others and in everything I do.

High Heart Chakra - Thymus - Turquoise

located in upper chest (between the 4th and 5th chakra)
This newly awakened chakra is for bridging our higher heart with the core of who we are and allow us to take personal responsibility for our lives.
Musical note: F#
Areas affected: thymus, immune system.
Issues: jealousy, anger, resentment, hatred, bitterness, unresolved grief, unable to forgive, self-centeredness, loneliness and betrayal.
Strengths: speaking and feeling from the deeper levels of our ourselves, being in touch with our soul's purpose and plan.
Affirmation: I speak clearly from my heart and soul, I fully express my soul's purpose.
Verb: I speak with heartfelt clarity and love.

5th Chakra - Throat - Blue

The fifth chakra is being in our own power and allowing self-expression to manifest. Having faith in ourselves and our abilities.

Areas affected: Throat, neck, scoliosis, mouth, teeth, gums, TMJ, laryngitis, swollen glands and thyroid problems.
Issues: addictions, criticism and judgment.
Strengths: communication, free/creative self expression, inspiration, freedom, knowledge, ability to make constructive decisions, independence, integrity, wisdom.
Affirmation: I freely and easily express my thoughts and feelings, I always communicate clearly and effectively.

6th Chakra - Third Eye - Indigo

The sixth chakra is the center of intuition, reasoning and intellect.

Areas affected: pituitary and pineal gland, endocrine system, left brain, sinuses, nervous system, nose, ears, full spinal difficulties, learning disabilities, seizures.
Issues: feelings of inadequacy, not able to learn from life's experiences.
Strengths: intuition, clairvoyance, insight, imagination, idealism, manifestation, projection of will, emotional intelligence.
Affirmation: I am perfectly in tune and clear with my vision, I use my imagination for positive and creative purposes.

The seventh chakra is allowing our spiritual connection to become an integral part of our physical lives.

Areas affected: cerebrum, right brain, central nervous system, muscular and skeletal system, energetic disorders, spiritual depression, exhaustion other than physical, extreme sensitivities to sound, light and other environmental factors.
Issues: Aimless, unfocused, constantly seeking but never satisfied.
Strengths: understanding, perfection, integration/unity with Spirit, enlightenment, Divine plan and purpose, humanitarian, values, ethics, courage.
Affirmation: I am now one with Spirit and all of creation, I am in total harmony - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
